Cody Ceci has joined The Organ Project as an official ambassador

Ottawa Senators defenceman Cody Ceci has joined The Organ Project as an official ambassador. Ceci, an Ottawa native and role model for many Canadian kids, understands the importance of registering as an organ donor to help end the organ transplant wait list and has committed to assist in spreading the word.

Ceci will be premiering his partnership with The Organ Project at WE DAY 2017, where he will be talking to teens about organ donation alongside Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk and organ recipient Tina Proulx.

Melnyk founded The Organ Project in 2016 after receiving news he required a liver transplant and was added to a waitlist of over 4,600 people. Thanks to a public plea from his family and an anonymous donor, Melnyk was able to receive the operation that saved his life.

“Because of organ donation, my life has taken on a new purpose where I am in a position now to help others,” says Melnyk. “I am very proud to have Cody join our team advocating the importance of organ donation registration to ultimately eliminate the transplant waitlist.”

Ceci himself adds, “Seeing the impact of what organ donation can do to save another person’s life is inspiring and I am excited to help bring awareness to The Organ Project initiative both at WE DAY and in the future.”

WE DAY 2017 will be taking place in Ottawa on Nov. 15 at Canadian Tire Centre. WE DAY brings together speakers and performers to an audience of young people and families to inspire positive social change.

The Organ Project is thrilled to be a part of WE DAY 2017 and we are proud to have Cody Ceci on our team.

About The Organ Project

Launched in February 2017 by Eugene Melnyk, Owner and Chairman of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, The Organ Project is a charitable organization focused on ending the organ donor wait list for transplants. In Canada, more than 4,600 people are in desperate need of a life-saving organ transplant. The Organ Project aims to make traditional organ donor registration simpler, efficient, and more accessible because a single organ donor has the power to save eight lives.
